Things have been pretty quiet around here recently, not much going on in the community.
The weather has been almost summerlike at times, and certainly spring like, with temperatures well over freezing for days on end. No snow now for a long time, weeks in fact either on the ground or fresh. All due to the El Nino effect in the Pacific we are told, where a very large body of warm water has moved in of the west coast of North America. It has been there since last fall, and our weather has proven to be mild.
Where we can easily get to 30 and even 40 below, so far it has managed to get to just 12 below one night when we were going away the following day.
We live in Calgary, and have done so since 1960, except for a couple of years in Red Deer. Since we moved here we have lived entirely in Alberta.
Calgary, in case you need to know is about 3400 feet above sea level, is in the rain shadow of the of the Rockies, and is also on the 51 parallel of latitude. That places Calgary just 200 miles farther north than the northern border of Montana.
One of the nicer things about the improved weather at least from my perspective is the variety and number of birds and other wildlife we are having. Not only have we had our on site Chickadees that have wintered well, the Purple Finches are still here, and we have added a family of Nuthatch’s to our feeder. All three of these have been seen at the feeder all at once, meaning they have learned to coexist. Better than some of the people I know.
One thing we have also noticed over the past year is the reduction in the sparrow population. There is one pair of sparrows though, that have been looking into moving in to the bird house. Likely the offspring of last years residents.
We also are home to a bunch of hares, that inhabit our community. Nobody has a count on them but we estimate maybe 3 or 4. They do eat some of the garden stuff during the growing season, and some folks get fussed, but by adding some blood meal to the garden, that seems to be but a memory.
A deer drops by from time to time to try out our bird feeder, and he/she can just about empty the feeder in no time. I have no problem with all this, the wild life is welcome in my inner city environment.
Prime Minister Trudeau.
Our good Prime Minister is in Washington this week being entertained by President Obama. The Maple Leaf Flags are out to adorn the American Capitol. All well and good I suppose, and it is nice to be good with your neighbours. Not too sure just how this will all play out if the Donald is elected, but disaster comes to mind.
I didn’t vote for Trudeau or his party in the recent election, and I m very glad I did not. My efforts were in vain in any event, because the drama coach who just cannot resist a camera got in anyway. We are stuck with him for the next 3 years and 9 months. But who is counting. Well, I am.
The following is a video clip Trudeau did before he was elected, where he extolled the virtues of Quebec born prime ministers are the best, and that Quebec does not belong to Canada, but that Canada Belongs to Quebec. Check the video Trudeau
The politics around the Muslims and their desire for Sharia Law, are nothing I want for my family, friends, or fellow westerner’s. But our illustrious Prime Minister has actually installed a Sharia Law proponent to assist a member of his cabinet. Another Video. Sharia Law in Canada.
With terrorism all around us from the 911 attacks in the US, to the Canadian version where a soldier was deliberately run down and killed, to the shooting in our Parliament buildings by a couple of Muslim deranged loose cannons, terrorism exists in Canada, and when our Prime Ministers brother petitions the Prime Minister to change the law that would revoke the dual citizenship and deport these jokers back to their original land, it borders on treason. Give a look. Treason

HEART WARMING STORY
Because of his stupidity and clumsiness, his teacher, was always yelling at him, "You’re driving me crazy, Tyrone!"
One day, Tyrone’s mother came to school to check on how he was doing.
The teacher told his mother honestly, that her son was simply a disaster, getting very low marks, and that she had never seen such a stupid boy in her entire teaching career.
The mother was so shocked at the feedback that she withdrew her son from school and moved out of London, and relocated to Birmingham .
Twenty-five years later, the teacher was diagnosed with an almost incurable cardiac disease. All the doctors strongly advised her to have open heart surgery, but there was only one surgeon in Britain who could perform the operation and he was located at the Birmingham Clinic. Left with no other options, the teacher decided to have the operation, which was successful.
When she came round after surgery she saw a handsome young doctor smiling down at her. She wanted to thank him, but could not talk. Her face started to turn blue, she raised her hand, trying to tell him something but quickly died. The doctor was shocked, wondering what could possibly have gone wrong so suddenly.
Then he turned around and saw our friend Tyrone, a janitor in the Clinic, who had unplugged the life-support equipment in order to connect his vacuum cleaner.
If you thought for one moment that Tyrone had become a heart-surgeon, there is a high likelihood that you voted for Justin Trudeau.
