I am going to skip the blog on our cruise, for a day of so. Instead I want to speak to an issue or two about oil, and milk.

I read the other day that there is a group of people who think that drinking milk is not good for you when you are weaned and an adult. From personal experience and what I have read on the milk carton and from diet studies, milk is actually good for you! In fact for most of my 81 years, I have been consuming milk at the rate of a glass or two a day for as long as I can remember. Other than some eye problems related to aging, and an arthritic knee, I have no medical problems!

The argument proposed by these naysayers, it was PETA, I think, is that as we get weaned from milk as a child, we do not need it, and in most places in the world we simply cannot digest it. I agree that in some places in our world, like Africa, the adult people cannot digest milk, and they get internal complications due to that factor. North Americans on the other hand have grown accustomed to milk in their diet, and it seldom gives anybody a problem.

The second thing mentioned by this group is that as well as adult consumption of milk, we are the only mammal that drinks the milk of other mammals. They might be right about that, but what pray tell has that got to do with anything.

I read the side of my cereal box the other day, and if one ate it without milk, the value would drop by at least half. Might as well just eat the box! So, having given this some considerable thought, I am going to continue to drink milk, and to use it on my cereal. So there.

My second piece today deals with a guy who goes by the name of David Suzuki. For years he had a TV show, “The Nature of Things” on the peoples broadcasting company, the CBC, a very liberal corporation to be sure. Now David is a geneticist by profession, but now he claims to be a climate expert.

I think that only a fool would deny that the world is warming. But then again it has been doing that for hundreds of years. What has changed with respect to climate change is that there are some who would like to see the end of oil as an energy source. These people think we are the cause of this warming. They would also like to see the extraction, transportation, refining and the use of petroleum stopped. In fact they blame the oil industry for much of the world warming problem, and a problem it is. I do not subscribe to the theory that the generation and use of energy by oil is what is going on here. The world would just stop in a matter of hours if all oil and gas production were just, stopped.

I also do not subscribe to the idea that we must have a so called carbon tax that would restrict the use of oil in our daily lives. Look around you. What you will see is all the products in your home, that were likely made from petrochemicals, and were definitely delivered to you at some stage in the process, by a plane, a ship, a train, or by a truck. Guess what, those transportation methods were all built using petrochemical energy, and are lubricated and fuelled by oil.

Sure we can harvest solar energy, but it has to be stored for use at night. Sure we can use wind energy, surely a delightful thing to look at, but it does run at night when the wind blows, and in the process, is killing millions of birds and bats. I don’t think that was well thought out, and the birds are definitely against it. Tidal power? Maybe, but it is still infant science, and it is a long way from the truck on the highway, that is delivering the cereal to your local supermarket.

Atomic Energy is a clean source of energy that could be used to heat your home, generate electricity, that could power your battery driven car. Maybe someday, even though some places in the world are in fact using atomic reactors to produce power, right now. Like France and Japan.

Oil spills and the reaction of some of the do gooders annoy me somewhat. I recall that during WW2, dozens if not hundred of ships, oil tankers in particular were torpedoed, bombed and shelled and were sunk. Some of these ships are leaking oil into the oceans as I write this piece. Like the Battleship Arizona in Hawaii. I also remember where I grew up during the war on an island called Bermuda that we often had oil collect on our beaches, and on our piers. Within 18 months of the end of the war, I doubt that any oil was evident on the docks, beaches, or the shoreline rocks.

Hawaii, and the Philippines, are volcanic, and when they erupt, huge amounts of gasses and ash are produced, and often travel around the earth blotting out sunlight, with the ash and the gases blocking the heat from escaping from earth.

I suppose that the whole thing seems a silly overdone thing that some people were  likely paid a lot of money, like Al Gore, and David Suzuki, who by using there celebrity are going to try to convince the world they are right, and we are wrong to consume petro products.

A while ago, the Ottawa Sun, a newspaper wrote an article on our good Mr. Suzuki on his homes, that’s right, homes plural. They are worth a considerable sum of money, and I suspect would use a lot of petro energy to heat. And to light them. And to travel between them. Check out the web page here on the Suzuki homes. I cannot believe that Mr. Suzuki travels to his well paid speaking engagements by walking, his sneakers are after all made from oil, he must drive, fly, or otherwise be conveyed in a conveyance driven by oil. Such hypocrisy.

TODAY’S QUOTE

Education has failed in a very serious way to convey the most important lesson science can teach: scepticism.

This is pretty disgusting.  Why don’t they show this stuff on the newscasts alongside the ones where Muslims are complaining? This isn’t pleasant but it needs to be seen.

If this video doesn’t get everybody ready to fight, we’re all in big trouble. The Western World is just sitting still, making speeches, going ho hum and letting these bastards run all over the free world. It’s time to quit talking and start shooting.

Every time a joke and or cartoon is made about the Koran, the whole world turns upside down…!! and we are all called racists!!!!!!!!
However they appear to do whatever they like and no one says anything…and the majority of people remain silent  see this video whilst it’s available and before it is removed. TOMBSTONES

On a much lighter note, take a peek at this video of a young boy golfer. It is not his age so much, as it is of what he can do. Even if you hate golf, this is interesting : Young golfer

EXIT LAUGHING:

This funny has been around for a while, and I got it again recently, and it brought a smile.

Death in Wisconsin

The Pillsbury Doughboy died yesterday in Minneapolis of a yeast infection and traumatic complications from repeated pokes in the belly.  He was 71.  Doughboy was buried in a lightly greased coffin.
Dozens of celebrities turned out to pay their respects, including Mrs.  Butterworth, Hungry Jack, the California Raisins, Betty Crocker, the Hostess Twinkies, and Captain Crunch.  The gravesite was piled high with flours.
Aunt Jemima delivered the eulogy and lovingly described Doughboy as a man who never knew how much he was kneaded.

Born and bread in Minnesota, Doughboy rose quickly in show business, but his later life was filled with turnovers.  He was not regarded as a very smart cookie, wasting much of his dough on half-baked schemes.

Despite being a little flaky at times, he still was a crusty old man and served as a positive roll model for millions.

Doughboy is survived by his wife, Play Dough, three children: John Dough, Jane Dough and Dosey Dough, plus they had one in the oven.  He is also survived by his elderly father, Pop Tart.  The funeral was held at 3:50 for about 20 min.

I went into the confessional box after years of being away from the Church.

Inside I found a fully equipped bar with Guinness on tap.

On one wall, there’s a row of decanters with fine Irish whiskey and Waterford crystal glasses.

On the other wall is a dazzling array of the finest cigars and chocolates.

Then the priest comes in.

I say to him, "Father, forgive me, for it’s been a very long time since I’ve been to confession, but I must first admit that the confessional box is much more inviting than it used to be."

He replies: “Get out, you moron, you’re on my side."

Have a Great Day, and be nice to one another.
