It has been fairly crappy for days now. It is unusually cool, with the promise of rain, thunderstorms and hail. Today is promising thunderstorms, and at the moment it is cloudy and 72 degrees. Five of the next 7 days are promising rain and temperatures between 60 and 70. And to think this is August! Terrible, I think this is the worst summer I can recall in Calgary since we came west.
So, I thought you might just be interested in some quotes from Winston Churchill. Enjoy!
“A pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity; an optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty.”
“Some people regard private enterprise as a predatory tiger to be shot. Others look on it as a cow they can milk. Not enough people see it as a healthy horse, pulling a sturdy wagon.”
“A fanatic is one who can’t change his mind and won’t change the subject.”
“A joke is a very serious thing.”
“Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery.”
“Success consists of going from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm.”
”I may be drunk, Miss, but in the morning I will be sober and you will still be ugly.”
”You have enemies? Good. That means you’ve stood up for something, sometime in your life.”
“All the great things are simple, and many can be expressed in a single word: freedom, justice, honour, duty, mercy, hope.”
Churchill was likely the best man for the job of Prime Minister during World War 2. He was a great leader, who inspired the British people to not give up hope. The British however couldn’t wait to turf him at wars end. Pity. I saw him but once as he was whisked by us on a trip to Government House in Bermuda during the war. He had his cigar and was holding up his famous “V” for Victory salute. It was the solitary time I saw him.
Enough for today, I’ll be back tomorrow.
Have a Great Day!
